I was just talking to Rachel the other day about how I did not expect Namco to be going back to Soul Calibur anytime soon and here they go and prove me wrong. It’s been reported (so take it with a grain of salt) that Soul Calibur III is not only in development but it will also be a PS2 exclusive.
Putting aside the fact that SC2 had lost the magic of the original sequel for me it was pretty much accepted that the PS2 version of the game, even utilizing the architecture for which it was built, was hideous. Raising my little glass bottle of Syfo I say, “Here’s to you, Namco! I wish you the best in wallowing in your own mediocrity!”
So the second reason why I hate the gaming industry is that there is too little attention on creativity and too much attention on the mass production of simple sequels (three new characters plus an edit mode, woo-hoo).
Soul Calibur III is supposedly due out this fall. I’ll let you add your own sarcastic comment.
